Hello again!
Today I will comment on the talk of Dr. Valenzuela made the day last Thursday. He talked on "Postovulatory effects of Levonorgestrel in Emergency Contraception".
In my opinion, the presentation was very interesting and especially important for our future as midwifery.
Well, in the principle of the presentation did not understand much because I arrived late and was difficult to insert myself into what Dr. Valenzuela said, but after a moment I understood the presentation. The presentation was quite clear and I could integrate some knowledge about "levonorgestrel" that I did not have. For example that "Levonorgestrel" is the main compound of emergency contraception, which in Chile is known as the " the pill of the after day".
In the presentation Dr. Valenzuela told us that "Levonorgestrel" is not an abortive , as its effects are preovulatory.
The administration of the pill must be between 0 and 24 hours after intercourse or maximum 5 days after intercourse. However, their effects decrease if consumption is later.
Well, I understand "abortion" to premature termination of a process of gestation. I also know that there are different types of abortion including spontaneous and induced abortion.
You can define as ectopic pregnancy to a fetus begins to develop in tissue other than the uterine wall either in the fallopian tube, ovarian or cervical canal.
According to the difference between anticonceptive and contraconceptive , I think that mean the same as both terms are aimed at the prevention of pregnancy.
In short, my opion about whether or not I supported the use of levonorgestrel I think it depends on the ethics and the concept of life of each person. Therefore the use of this drug is the criterion of who would use it.
see you soon
Bye!
